Hey cousins, hey, you're listening to Den of Queens. I'm your host, Crystal, the One, not the Two. Today's topic is expectations. They say not to have expectations because if you don't have them, you can't be disappointed. But that in itself is not obtainable. Expectations are an anticipation or standard you set for an event, relationship, or even goals. I plan things all the time from beginning to end. When it's something that I know I have to complete, I move other things to the back burner to get my main objective completed. I have learned that when dealing with others, that it can be extremely hard to get everyone to the finish line. So, of course, now I don't put forth too much energy trying to force my anticipation of traveling, gathering, or any kind of togetherness. Because people truly make time for the things that are important to them. And I have a busy life, and I tell you that I know I need to make time for you because it's important that we spend time. So I consider my schedule and say that this particular day is good for me. I will not plan anything during this time. Then every time we're supposed to kick it, I don't show up. At this point, I've helped you build an expectation of time. Not only are you expecting me to be there, but I have also stolen time from you because you could have been somewhere else doing something else just as I am. When you genuinely care for people, it's hard to not have expectations of them. While they continue to fail you, it's not only makes you reconsider their friendship or relationship, but it makes you think, how am I not as important as your other friends? What makes them better than me? What's wrong with me? Realizing you are not a priority to people that you prioritize is ground shaking and can be life shattering. Depending on the person in your life, never stop having expectations, but learn to prioritize yourself more, especially over people who continuously let you down. You cannot depend on others to make you happy. You have to build your own happiness in whatever shape or form that looks like to you. Now, thank you for tuning in to Den of Queens.
